Practice Experience:

Mr. Dessauer has over thirty years of experience as a commercial and business lawyer. His active trial and appellate practice has included federal and state antitrust claims, shareholder disputes (including corporate valuation issues), breach of contract, fraud, lender liability, business torts, lease disputes, construction disputes and miscellaneous real estate issues.

Mr. Dessauer’s practice includes advising organized entities on corporate restructuring and reorganization matters, both within and outside of bankruptcy. Since 2003, Mr. Dessauer has filed some sixteen voluntary Chapter 11 petitions on behalf of a variety of industries. These filings resulted in multiple confirmed plans of reorganization or successful Section 363 sales. He has prosecuted and/or defended numerous adversary proceedings involving avoidance actions, other sections of the Bankruptcy Code and related state law issues.


Mr. Dessauer is a member of the American, Tennessee and Kingsport Bar Associations. He served on the board of governors for the Tennessee Bar Association from 1990 thru 1993, and served on the 2000 and 2010 TBA Committees on Revised Article 9 to the Uniform Commercial Code. He currently serves on the TBA Committee on the Revised Uniform Limited Partnership Act. Mr. Dessauer has served on the board of directors of the Northeast Tennessee Chapter of the Federal Bar Association since 2005, and served as president of the chapter in 2013 and 2014. Mr. Dessauer is married and has three children.
